Halloween Frankenstein Rice Krispies Treats Recipe and Decorating Tips

My 7-year-old daughter saw these Frankenstein Monster Rice Krispies Treats and absolutely loved them. She couldn’t wait to grab one. They turned out so cute! She calls them “Rice Kripsies,” which I think is adorable, so I never correct her.

These are perfect for a school class party or any Halloween gathering. You don’t even need to make Rice Krispies from scratch—store-bought treats work great and save time.

  • Rice Krispies Treats (store-bought or homemade)
  • Black licorice pieces
  • White frosting (canned or tub)
  • Lime green food coloring
  • Candy googly eyes
  • Black decorating gel icing
  • Red decorating gel icing

Directions

Green frosting for Frankenstein Monster Rice Krispies Treats!

1. Mix a few drops of lime green food coloring into the white frosting until you reach a bright, even green. Frost the top of each Rice Krispies treat with the colored frosting.

2. Cut black licorice into small pieces. Slice rounds about 1/4 inch thick so you have two round pieces for each head to use as bolts. Cut 12 licorice pieces in half lengthwise to create 24 thin strips for hair.

3. Arrange three thin licorice strips across the top of each treat to form hair. Press two candy eyes into the frosting below the hair.

4. Use the red decorating gel to add a small scar above one eye. Draw a mouth with the black decorating gel.

5. Put a small dab of frosting on each licorice bolt round and press one onto each side of the treat so they sit approximately level with the eyes.
