4 Compelling Reasons to Read The Last Lumenian Series by S.G. Blaise

This post is brought to you by The Last Lumenian Series. All opinions are my own.

I’ve always loved reading. As a child I frequently left the library with a stack of books taller than I was. That passion has never faded, though these days I don’t have as much time for leisurely reading as I’d like. So when I do set aside time to curl up with a book, I want it to be exceptional. That’s why I’ve been enjoying The Last Lumenian Series by S.G. Blaise.

The series currently includes two books, The Last Lumenian and True Teryn, and they offer a refreshing blend of genres. If you love fantasy, you’ll recognize its familiar elements—magic, mages, royalty, and castles—but the setting leans into science fiction, taking place in the future across other worlds. That mixture of futuristic landscapes and classic fantasy staples creates a world that feels both new and comfortably familiar.

If you’re searching for your next memorable read, here are a few reasons these books deserve a spot on your shelf.

1. The pacing is excellent — you won’t get bored. Both books move briskly and keep the momentum going. For me, reading is often a chance to escape stressful thoughts or current events. That escape disappears when a story hits a lull, but these novels avoid that entirely. Time skips and scene transitions are handled in ways that serve the plot, and many chapters are short and compelling. Each chapter frequently ends on a beat that makes you want to dive into the next one. The narrative balances action and emotional moments so you remain invested in the protagonist’s journey.

2. The protagonist is an inspiring role model. Lilla, the series’ main character, is both resilient and relatable. She’s a princess in a culture that expects her to remain in the background, yet she steps forward and fights for what’s right, following in her mother’s footsteps. Her strength is all the more meaningful because she struggles with panic attacks, a detail introduced early in the first book. As someone who deals with anxiety myself, I found it affirming to read about a character who experiences panic yet continues to take action and lead change.

3. The romance is well-balanced. The romantic elements are satisfying without overwhelming the story. Blending science fiction with fantasy frees the author from strict adherence to one genre’s conventions, and that allows room for a romance depicted through a thoughtful, female perspective. The relationship adds warmth and humanity to the plot rather than turning the story into a typical tech- or magic-focused narrative. Lilla’s first encounter with Callum had me laughing aloud at her reaction—fun, genuine moments like that help humanize the characters.

4. The worldbuilding provides a rich escape to multiple new worlds. Reading should transport you, and these books do just that. They create worlds that feel immersive and distinct while still echoing recognizable cultural themes. The settings are inventive and varied enough to allow a full escape from everyday life while offering emotional and thematic resonance with contemporary issues. The result is a series that’s both immersive and relevant.

If these sound like the kinds of books you’d enjoy, consider picking up The Last Lumenian and True Teryn — both are available now.
