It’s that time of year again: the Virtual Pumpkin Party hosted by Sara of Cake over Steak and Aimee of Twigg Studios. This is my second year joining the celebration, and I’m still thinking about last year’s harissa-spiced pumpkin gnocchi. This year I chose another savory pumpkin dish: a simple, silky, spicy chipotle pumpkin hummus. It’s quick to make and bright with fall flavors—perfect as an appetizer for Halloween gatherings or Thanksgiving.

Spicy Chipotle Pumpkin Hummus
This spicy chipotle pumpkin hummus is incredibly easy to make and makes a flavorful, seasonal appetizer.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 15 oz can Chickpeas, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 Cup Pumpkin Purée, canned or homemade
- Juice from 1/2 a Lemon
- 1 Clove Garlic, cut into pieces
- 2 Tbs Warm Water
- Drizzle Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 Tsp Chipotle Pepper Powder
- 1/4 Tsp Salt, or more to taste
- 1/4 Tsp Cumin
- Pinch of Nutmeg, or more to taste
Instructions
- Start by chopping the garlic into pieces. You don’t need to finely mince it—chunks blend more easily in the processor.
- Add the rinsed and drained chickpeas, pumpkin purée, lemon juice, garlic, warm water, olive oil, chipotle powder, salt, cumin, and nutmeg into a food processor.
- Process for one to two minutes, or until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides as needed.
- Taste and adjust seasoning: add more salt, nutmeg, or chipotle powder to suit your preference.
- Spoon the hummus into a serving bowl. Garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and a light sprinkle of chipotle powder if desired.
- Serve with pita, veggies, or crackers. Enjoy!
