This salted caramel banana bread is incredibly soft and rich. It has all the familiar comforts of classic banana bread, but the salted caramel elevates the flavor to something special.
Banana bread is a favorite for good reason: it’s easy, dependable, and always satisfying. I enjoy baking it because it’s simple and forgiving, yet endlessly adaptable. Recently I wanted to give the traditional loaf a little upgrade, so I added salted caramel — one of my favorite flavor boosters.
For convenience this recipe uses store-bought salted caramel sauce, which keeps the process quick without sacrificing flavor. The result is a tender, moist loaf with pockets of caramel-rich sweetness and a hint of salt that balances the sweetness from the bananas and sugars.
This recipe is straightforward and one-bowl friendly, making it perfect for busy mornings or a relaxed baking session. Below I’ll walk you through the steps and share tips to make the best loaf possible.
Why You’ll Love This Salted Caramel Banana Bread…
- The flavor is deep and satisfying — classic banana notes with the indulgent addition of salted caramel.
- It’s an easy, one-bowl recipe, mixed by hand with simple ingredients and minimal fuss.
- Warm slices with a bit of butter make a dreamy breakfast or a cozy dessert.
What You’ll Need…
How To Make Salted Caramel Banana Bread…
Start by combining melted, cooled butter with both sugars in a large bowl. Add the unsweetened applesauce, salted caramel sauce, and vanilla extract, then mix in the mashed banana.
Gently fold in the dry ingredients — the gluten-free flour blend, baking powder, baking soda, and salt — until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the loaf tender.
Transfer the batter to a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan and bake at 350°F for 60–65 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean when the loaf is done. Let the bread cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before removing and slicing.
Tips For Making The Best Gluten Free Banana Bread…
- Weigh the flour. Using a kitchen scale ensures you use the correct amount — for this recipe you’ll need 222 grams of gluten-free flour blend. Too much flour can make the loaf dense and dry.
- Use unsweetened applesauce so you don’t add extra sweetness or unwanted flavors. The caramel and sugars provide plenty of sweetness.
- Choose ripe bananas. They mash easily and contribute the best banana flavor. Depending on size, 1–2 bananas should yield about 1 cup mashed banana.
Ingredient Substitutions…
- Light brown sugar is recommended for its milder molasses note, but dark brown sugar can be used if that’s what you have.
- If you prefer, use a trusted homemade caramel sauce in place of store-bought; store-bought is simply a time-saver.
